How It Works

Sun Flare GraphicOur Long-Term Goals
The People's Climate Project work is based on the following essential components:

  • Provide hands-on assistance and support to families, groups and communities with demonstrated need.
  • Create awareness through education and outreach activities and provide opportunities that empower people around the issue of climate change.
  • Motivate individuals to take proactive steps to reduce their impact on the Earth.

People supporting people supporting the climate
Global climate change is already affecting our lives and the paces we live, and has the potential to dramatically impact the lives of future generations. Given the financial stresses of low-income groups, climate change will have a great impact on the living conditions of the poor. Already high energy costs create a huge financial burden for low-income families; climate change will make the current situation even worse for many low-income people.

The People's Climate Project collects donations and resources that go directly to local projects that help families cope with increasingly high energy prices, simultaneously enabling individuals and organizations to take immediate action to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate change.

There's a lot of uncertainty in the carbon offset market in the United States. If you choose to buy traditional carbon offsets to compensate for your emissions, it's difficult to know what and where exactly your money is going toward. Will the carbon mitigation measures work? Who is monitoring and certifying those reductions? And then, there is the concern about the amount of money going toward overhead and profits.

Meanwhile, all around us, ordinary people are deeply affected by the cost of energy. You could choose between meeting the immediate energy-related needs of ordinary people and doing your part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But why not do both at the same time?

By donating money through the People's Climate Project (run by NCAT, a non-profit) to low-income people with energy needs, you can be sure that your money will immediately make life more comfortable for low-income people and also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Why would you make any other choice?
